Because October’s fire was concentrated in the basement utility/laundry room, my beloved 4-year old washer and dryer were toast. Once again, I am a huge advocate of having renter’s insurance (if you rent and don’t have insurance, spend the ~$20-30/month and get it…NOW). I paid that bill every month for almost 15 years!
Where was I? Oh yes…I had got to buy a new washer and dryer and found a lovely Samsung front loading washer and the matching electric dryer on sale at Lowe’s. As you can imagine, spending all that time bending, kneeling, etc. isn’t much fun. And when you do all the laundry for the entire family…well, you know.
My laundry room is in the basement, and, believe it or not, I LOVE it. Sure, hauling baskets of clothes up and down two flights of stairs isn’t the best job in the world, but it’s not the worst either. I think of it as good exercise. Before we moved, I started on my very first wood project for the house. A laundry pedestal (see, this post is going somewhere). The idea and instructions came from Ana White’s website. I made the pedestal larger due to the size of my machines, and I’m glad I did. Had I made it to the original dimensions, it would have been ever so slightly too small. Because it has been so long, I forgot that I already blogged about starting the process here. So I won’t go into that again.
This is what you came to see…the finished product in action.
I have yet to put the trim on or fill and paint over the screw holes, but it’s in the basement and sometimes function takes precedence over fashion. Especially when it’s the night before the moving truck comes and you’re finally screwing everything together and putting a last coat of paint on the thing.
Yes, that happened.
Yes, the paint was dry when they put it on the truck.
When I use the word “love” to describe my feelings about this piece, it’s not an over-exaggeration. The height is perfect. The size is just right. It was a beast to move around by myself, but that’s to be expected when working with solid wood.

Has it already been two weeks since we moved into our home? I can’t believe how quickly time passes once a goal has been reached.
I know you’re dying to see pictures. I’m determined to get all of my stuff out of boxes before I take any. Things are being put away. Slowly…slowly. I could rush, but then I’d hurt for another week.
I could have worked on it last weekend, but it was Mother’s Day weekend. Oh, I also put together my new patio furniture and a trampoline. And mowed my yard for the first time. The weather was so gorgeous, we spent most of the two days outside. It was lovely!
Once the school-year activities are over with and summer begins, I’ll have more nights during the week to work around the house. In theory, at least.
Softball begins almost as soon as school ends, and with two playing this year…
There go June and July!
Also? The new furniture has yet to arrive. It’s being delivered on Wednesday. That in and of itself is exciting!!
Know anyone who needs an ugly brown loveseat/overstuffed chair set? I have one to give away. In fact, I’ll probably put it up on freecycle next week. It’s gotta go before the purdy new pieces get here! No mixing gross and beautiful. That’s just wrong.
If you really really want to see the house, stop by. Just promise you’ll look past the boxes. And the fugly old furniture while it’s still here.

the home stretch.
the last mile.
the light at the end of the tunnel.
I’m so darned excited I can hardly contain my excitement. In less than 2 days, I will be standing inside my house. My House.
My Home, Sweet Home.
It’s a rather hectic week in my neck of the woods. I should be packing instead of writing, but I also felt the need to write since I haven’t in a few days. Not that I’m writing anything that’s intellectually stimulating or even all that exciting for anyone else. But it’s my blog and if I wanna scream at the top of my internet lungs that there are only 37 hours and a few odd minutes left before I start the closing on this house then I will.
By golly!
Tomorrow at noon, I meet my Realtor at the house for the final walk through. Hoping it goes smoothly. Hoping the next 2 days 4 days go smoothly.
It supposed to rain on Saturday…moving day. Isn’t that good luck? Or does it count only your wedding day?

Boxes. More boxes. They seem to have taken over my life once again. In November and December, the dining room of our little duplex was filled with the darn cardboard contraptions. It seems we’re moving back in that direction once again.
This time for a good long move though.
I’m over this short term living space. Over the close quarters and sharing a wall with people we don’t know, and have never spoken to. Oh, they’ve given me enough sidelong evil looks in the few weeks they’ve been here. And you don’t wanna know what went down on the other side of the wall with the people who lived there before. Let’s just say there were scents I hadn’t smelled since college.
This afternoon, the girls and I stopped at our storage unit to pick up a load of empty boxes. Ella had a great time climbing on top of the pile! It wasn’t stacked nearly as high and tight as I remembered it being, but the 10′x15′ unit still full front to back and 5-6′ high all the way. Where am I going to put all that stuff in the new house? Yikes!!
It will all find a home eventually. But the reality of it is that I will be living with boxes for many moons to come.
Anyone want to help me unpack?

You won’t be seeing pictures of the house before I move in afterall. Got an email from my Realtor this morning. Apparently, the sellers are up in arms about me posting pictures I took on my website.
Really?
Do they have nothing better to do? This comes the day after I find out they may have to push back closing because the house they’re buying has some issues. Why does that become MY problem?? I’ve already given notice to my landlord.
Not cool.
I’ve been plenty patient with them. Heck..the address of the property is listed nowhere! And I didn’t even take/post a picture of the front of the house.
But whatever. You don’t scare me. You just piss me off.
Some days just a little.
Today…a lot.
