the final countdown

the home stretch.

the last mile.

the light at the end of the tunnel.

I’m so darned excited I can hardly contain my excitement.  In less than 2 days, I will be standing inside my house.  My House.

My Home, Sweet Home.

It’s a rather hectic week in my neck of the woods.  I should be packing instead of writing, but I also felt the need to write since I haven’t in a few days.  Not that I’m writing anything that’s intellectually stimulating or even all that exciting for anyone else.  But it’s my blog and if I wanna scream at the top of my internet lungs that there are only 37 hours and a few odd minutes left before I start the closing on this house then I will.

By golly!

Tomorrow at noon, I meet my Realtor at the house for the final walk through.  Hoping it goes smoothly.  Hoping the next 2 days 4 days go smoothly.

It supposed to rain on Saturday…moving day.  Isn’t that good luck?  Or does it count only your wedding day?

a castle for the queen

A lot can happen around here in six weeks.  The most recent six have been no exception!  After exploring education options for Lexi, fighting with the administration at the girls’ current school, and visiting one of the local Montessori schools, I’m only more frustrated about the future.  However, the experience did break my want to stay in this school district.

The same day I visited the Montessori school, I also met with my Realtor to explore housing options in a different part of town.  While I had been focusing on homes built in the last 10 years, I turned my attention to early 20th century neighborhoods.  The difference was astounding!  I was truly amazed by the wonderful gems hiding in these quaint little neighborhoods.

Then, about 3 weeks ago, I found it…a little cube of a house built in 1922.  And I fell in love.  The home had been updated electrically and the current (soon-to-be previous) owners had taken great care in their remodeling projects.  It’s perfect for my little family.  Realtor and I wrote up the first offer on Friday night and had a heck of a time through the weekend.  I even offered a lovely price…if they’d cancel the open house scheduled for Sunday.  They didn’t take it, and I was ready to walk away.  Tuesday, Realtor and I were scheduled to look at more homes, and to revisit a couple I had seen before.

But…the sellers came to their senses.  I had a signed contract that night.  The inspection happened Friday, and we negotiated repairs through the weekend.  I met with the Money Man and the Insurance Guy on Monday (March 28).  My loan has been approved through the underwriting process, and as of Friday night, the only we’re waiting on is the property appraisal.   Seems too good to be true.  Honestly, once the sellers signed the contract, things have been so easy.  It’s really unreal.

We close on April 28.  And it will be mine.  All mine…

With the girls…and the dog, I suppose.

new year…the queen still reigns

Somehow my 5 and 7-year olds kept themselves awake on NYE, but by 10:30, I knew they’d never make it until midnight in Kansas.  So the girls and I rang in the New Year at 11pm…with the live ABC telecast from New York.  It was a memorable evening and the first time I’ve allowed them to stay up so late.

Today is my first day back at work since December 22.  It was such a lovely vacation, I had a hard time getting out of bed at 5:30 this morning.  Apparently, I wasn’t the only one.  My first email of the day came at 7:20…from the boss lady.  She’d forgotten to turn on her alarm clock and had just rolled out of bed.  Awesome example in leadership.

This time of year brings questions of resolutions and goals for the next 12 months.  Here are my Top 5…

5.  Finalize the insurance settlement from October’s fire

4.  Set and stick to a reasonable household budget to include more savings

3.  Continue losing weight (hit my goal by year end) and exercising regularly

2.  Complete my Life Coach certification course and establish a practice

1.  Purchase my first house
